Re-think: How to overcome professional difference and/or 'stuckness' to keep children at the centre of practice

Presented by:

  • Sam Nesbit - Portsmouth Safeguarding Children's Partnership Training Manager
  • Adam Shepherd - Head of Family Safeguarding

About session:

'Re-think' is a restorative way of bringing the multi-agency professional network together when there has been a difference of opinion and or a sense that there is limited progress for a family.

In Portsmouth, making, maintaining and mending relationships is seen as a critical part of effective safeguarding practice. We believe that when relationships are prioritised within the professional network, children are safer.

Conflict has lasting effects upon us both individually and collectively, creating a psychologically safe space for professionals to develop a shared understanding of roles, responsibilities, risk, empathy and compassion. This means decisions for children and their families are safer.

Re-think is a response to ensure that the challenges of multi-agency working does not impact on outcomes for children. This session will provide a space to not just think about 'does this work' but also 'what works, for whom, under what circumstances and how.'
