Two of Portsmouth's most iconic buildings will be lit up to celebrate Foster Care Fortnight on 13 - 26 May 2024.
Portsmouth Guildhall and Spinnaker Tower will display the brand colours of Foster Portsmouth. Alongside this, a special flag will be flown above the Civic Offices in recognition of the work of foster families.
Councillor Suzy Horton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education at Portsmouth City Council said: "We want to send a big signal to Portsmouth that Foster Care Fortnight has arrived but more importantly the story behind the national campaign. The city needs more foster carers to support its communities. This is a vital role that supports children and young people during challenging times.
"Foster Portsmouth will be hosting a special foster care drop in event during the week, giving those interested a chance to ask questions and find out more about becoming a foster carer."
The foster care recruitment brand for Portsmouth City Council held a drop-in foster recruitment event on Saturday 18 May at the Holiday Inn Express in Farlington .
Attendees learnt about supporting Portsmouth's most vulnerable children and young people, talking directly to existing foster carers about the rewards of fostering.
The event fell during Foster Care Fortnight, the annual national campaign founded in 1997 by the UK’s leading fostering charity The Fostering Network.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of the transformational power of fostering, celebrating it's community and the services that support them – including Foster Portsmouth – and showcase the commitment, passion and dedication of carers.
