Portsmouth City Council is gearing up for an exciting showcase at the Compass Jobs Fair in London on Monday 25 November 2024.

Visitors to stand nine will discover reasons why children's social care in the city are #ProudToBePortsmouth.

Stronger Futures, the children's social care recruitment brand for Portsmouth City Council, will highlight the services innovative model of family practice as well as their new market supplement payment for social workers of up to £3,000 in qualifying teams.

“Portsmouth is a fantastic city to practice in as a social worker and we want to share that with a national audience. The Compass Jobs Fair in London is the perfect place to launch our campaign and showcase what makes us proud.

"Whether that's our training programme for newly qualified social workers or our new employment package - the event will allow us to promote who we are and what we are all about."

Alongside this, Portsmouth will introduce audiences to Re:think, in the seminar hall. This approach brings multi-agency professional networks together in a restorative way when there has been a difference of opinion and/or a sense that there is limited progress for a family.

This will be presented by Sam Nesbit, Portsmouth Safeguarding Children's Partnership Training Manager and Adam Shepherd, Head of Family Safeguarding at Portsmouth City Council.

Re-think is about creating safe, restorative spaces for professionals to work through challenges collaboratively. In Portsmouth, we believe that when professionals prioritise their relationships with each other, children are better protected and more likely to thrive.

Sam BushbySam Busby, deputy director, children’s services said,

“Our Portsmouth model of practice is built on relationships, with children, families, colleagues and partners. Our practice of Re-think is a key part of this, and we know that when professionals come together in safe spaces to work through complex issues and differing opinions, they can work together and manage risk more effectively, and best support children and families.”

The session emphasises a restorative approach to multi-agency collaboration, were open dialogue and mutual understanding drive better outcomes for children.

Beyond the CPD session, visitors to stand nine can participate in a raffle to win a hamper filled with Portsmouth based treats. They’ll also have the chance to explore job vacancies, the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) Programme, and meet the team to learn about life in Portsmouth.

A #ProudToBePortsmouth video wall will feature inspiring stories of children and families in the community, showcasing their resilience and growth.

Through powerful quotes, images, and video clips, Portsmouth’s stand will bring these stories to life, offering a look at how families have transformed their lives.
